The Saddle Bag or Chuval, was used as a means of transporting baggage & possessions. It was also important for a girl to weave a variety of bags for her dowry, so as a result they are often extremely well woven & finely detailed. Today, old tribal bags are becoming hard to find, but are keenly sought after as Collectors items.
This is an old double-faced Balouch bag from SW Afghanistan. Both sides are quite diferent, both are worked in intricate detail.
It is hand-knotted in wool and is in wonderful original condition; a great addition to any collection. Or use as a floor cushion.
