The Saddle Bag was used as a means of transporting baggage & possessions. It was also important  for a girl to weave a variety of bags for her dowry, so as a result they are often extremely well woven & finely detailed. Today, old tribal bags are becoming hard to find,  but are keenly sought after as Collectors items.

This bag is about 60 years old and is worked in soumak technique. It is from SW Afghanistan.
